Wario, Kipchoge Keino arrested as DCI probes Sh55m Rio scandal

Former Sports CS Hassan Wario and legendary athlete Kipchoge Keino have been arrested over the Sh55 million Rio Olympics scandal.

They were arrested on Thursday after surrendering to the DCI as directed by the court on Wednesday.

Two other suspects, who responded to the orders, were also arrested. The lot is expected in court on Friday to face various counts of graft.

The former CS and NOCK president were given up to today (Thursday) to surrender or face arrest.

DPP Noordin Haji said the two have a case to answer in the scandal. Haji approved the prosecution of the two and five others.

Former Sports PS Richard Ekai and two ex-senior officials in the ministry on Monday denied graft charges arising from the scandal.

The two are former director of administration Harrun Komen and ex-NOCK secretary general Francis Kanyili.

They appeared before Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogot following their arrest as ordered by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
