A man has died after being struck by lightning on Friday evening at Magombani village in Kwale county.
The deceased, Ngao Ndoro, 30, was with his wife Bahati Mwero from their farm in Matuga sub-county.
Speaking to the Star, Kwale county commissioner Karuku Ngumo said the newly wedded couple were sheltering under a tree when the rains started at around 4 pm before they were hit.
Ngumo said the man was hit on his chest and died on the spot while the wife suffered hand and head injuries.
“The wife was critically injured as she was hit on her head. She was rushed to Kwale sub-county hospital, for treatment, ” Karuku said.
The commissioner said that neighbours told him that they heard a loud thunder and rushed to the area but found the man already dead and the wife lying unconscious.
The two were newly wedded and have no children.
The deceased has been engaging in farming and selling coffee at Magombani market.
He will be laid to rest tomorrow at his home in Magombani village as the wife still receives treatment at Kwale hospital.
