DPP orders Maribe, Joseph Irungu charged with murder

DPP Noordin Haji has ordered TV journalist Jacque Maribe and her fiance Joseph Irungu alias Jowie to be charged with the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani.

“I have reviewed the evidence so far on record and I am satisfied that there exists a prima facie case to warrant criminal prosecution against them,” Haji said in a statement on Tuesday.

Maribe has been implicated in the gory murder by her conduct and association with the prime suspect Jowie. Monica, 28, was killed at her Lamuria Gardens apartment in Kilimani on September 19, a day after she arrived in the country from Juba.

Maribe’s charges emanate from what police describe as the illegal handling of a firearm after a 9mm live bullet was recovered in her bedroom. The ammo was linked to a gun which belongs to her neighbour, Brian Kasaine, that Jowie allegedly used to shoot himself but later claimed he was shot at by unknown people.

DCI George Kinoti told the Star on October 6 that evidence gathered by the investigators so far reveals that Maribe was indirectly linked to Monica’s murder.

Maribe was arrested on September 27 after investigators recovered some documents, among them a wallet and a handbag believed to belong to Monica at Jacque’s house in Royal Park, Lang’ata. She detained at the Gigiri police station after appearing in court on October 1.

Monica was buried at Kairi Village in Gilgil, Nakuru, on September 28,
